The Impact: The siege plunged the region of roughly 7 million people into extreme famine-level conditions. Reports indicated that tens of thousands died of hunger and hunger-related diseases, and millions were left dependent on heavily obstructed food aid before a cessation of hostilities was signed in late 2022.
