Newly minted billionaire Elon Musk has announced that he will take legal action against the public broadcaster. The background is that the protests were broadcast on the program „ZDF Heute Live“ on the 12th. June was linked to a post by Musk on his news network X. Musk did the same thing on Monday (15. June) clearly: „Legal action will be taken against ZDF because of its outrageous lies.“

Specifically, the program stated: „A brutal attempted murder in the street in Belfast. Someone is filming. The video goes viral. A racist mob then hunts down migrants. This was called for by a British right-wing extremist and tech billionaire, Elon Musk.“

A tweet as proof

The serious verdict was not elaborated upon; instead, a tweet from the Tesla CEO was shown. This involved the further distribution of a post by the well-known and now arrested British right-wing extremist Tommy Robinson, to which Musk wrote „Only through CONTINUOUS and LOUD RESISTANCE will there be any changes!!“

In the past, Robinson, along with other leading right-wing extremists, has called for demonstrations against immigration in the United Kingdom. Musk also shared a post from Rupert Lowe, chairman of the far-right party Restore UK. The new party is trying to profit from the radicalization of the right-wing spectrum on the island and wants to win over voters for whom the Conservatives have become too liberal and Reform UK too moderate.

The borderline TV report is still available online, but was given a disclaimer by ZDF: „Note: At the beginning of the moderation of this video, it states that after the brutal attempted murder, a racist mob hunted down migrants. This was called for by a British right-wing extremist and tech billionaire, Elon Musk. The wording is imprecise and therefore misleading. Tommy Robinson has called for protests following the knife attack in Belfast. The post was shared by Elon Musk.“

The role of Julian Reichelt

Elon Musk apparently became aware of the program through an online post by „Nius“ editor-in-chief Julian Reichelt. ZDF had described him as a „fortress of lies“ in connection with its reporting on the uprisings in Northern Ireland. Musk called Musk's alleged call to hunt down migrants a „propaganda lie“ and demanded the „destruction of ZDF“.

The fact is that Elon Musk did not directly call for people to take to the streets to protest. However, it is also a fact that his retweet spread 64 million more times, like the „Center for Countering Digital Hate“ (NGO, which opposes hate speech, note. d. Editor) proved.

Whether a lawsuit will actually be filed remains to be seen. Musk did not comment further, and ZDF did not comment on the threat of legal action.

⚽ A World Cup referee from Somalia who was denied entry to the United States was received by a crowd of supporters and officials Wednesday as he arrived in Somalia’s capital of Mogadishu, where he said he plans to be at the next World Cup and urged Somali youths to be proud of their country.

Omar Artan was set to be the first referee from Somalia to officiate at a World Cup after making FIFA’s final list for the tournament. He is one of Africa’s top referees and was named the continent’s best male referee in 2025.

He was denied entry at Miami International Airport on Saturday over “vetting concerns,” U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a statement without giving details of those concerns. FIFA subsequently cut him from the tournament’s referee list.

Artan was issued a visa to travel to the U.S. last week, according to the Somalia Embassy in Kenya that processed it. U.S. is co-hosting with Mexico and Canada, and Artan was due to meet up with other World Cup referees at their training base in Miami.

He returned to a hero’s welcome at the airport in Mogadishu, where he thanked the Somali government and people as well as FIFA for their support for him.

“I promise you, God willing, that I will attend the next one,” he said as hundreds of supporters at the airport waved the Somali flag. “I want the Somali public to take comfort in this and remain confident.”

The U.S.’s highly unusual move to deny a FIFA-appointed match official permission to enter a World Cup host country drew outrage across the world and raised questions among some fans about America’s capacity to host the competition.

Somalia is one of nearly 40 countries subject to new travel restrictions under the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration.

Hundreds of supporters, government officials and members of Somalia’s football community gathered hours before Artan arrived at Aden Adde International Airport at about 8:30 a.m. local time.

As Artan disembarked, supporters waving Somali flags crowded around him before draping him in the flag.

According to Family Minister Josefine Paul (Green Party), the girl had been "accommodated in various facilities of different support systems" since 2024.
