Syian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, whose al-Qaeda name is Abu Mohammad al-Julani, is being welcomed in Washington Monday where he's meeting President Trump at the White House, which is a first for any Syrian head of state in history.

But just before this, some 100 influential Christian leaders sent a letter to President Trump calling on him to raise the issue of minority rights and protection of Syria's ancient Christian community.

The letter was led by Dede Laugesen, president of Save the Persecuted Christians. The letter, submitted to the White House Friday, highlighted that Trump has made the protection of persecuted Christians in foreign lands like the Middle East and Africa a priority, and that the issue must be pressed firmly with Sharaa. Former member of Trump's cabinet, Dr. Ben Carson, was among those who signed the urgent letter.

President-elect Donald Trump appointed two of his in-laws to prominent diplomatic roles that could shape his foreign policy in his second term.

Last year, Trump nominated Charles Kushner, the father-in-law of Ivanka Trump, as U.S. ambassador to France. Meanwhile, Massad Boulos, the Lebanese-American father-in-law of Tiffany Trump, was appointed as senior adviser on Arab and Middle Eastern affairs.

Massad Boulos described Hezbollah's endorsed presidential candidate in Lebanon as a "friend" in comments to the Associated Press earlier this year, and was reportedly previously involved with Christian Lebanese parties allied with Hezbollah's political wing.

Boulos, a billionaire with significant business interests in Muslim-ruled Nigeria (heads the billion-dollar SCOA Nigeria conglomerate in West Africa), and strong connections to various political factions in Lebanon, was a key emissary to Arab American voters during the presidential campaign. His close ties to the Trump family and new position set him up to be a central figure in postwar efforts for regional peace.

Rising to the pinnacle of one’s career is not a mean feat. Becoming the chief executive officer of any organization, let alone a multinational firm, or by implication, a multi-dimensional company, is an achievement worth celebrating. It is even more legendary when the subject is internationally connected and has enduring links with notable figures, especially America’s President-elect, Donald John Trump, and is thriving without an iota scandal. Mr. Massad Boulos, the Chief Executive Officer of SCOA Nigeria, is that one person.

Born a Lebanese in 1971 to a Greek Orthodox family in Kfaraakka, Koura, Boulos has over the years, while growing, and through career trajectory, acquired three more national identities including American, French and Nigerian. These have projected to the category of international personalities, looked upon as fostering world peace and coexistence.

His name, which translates to Paul to the Apostle, in Arabic, betrays his religious inclination, but his close-knitted relationship with Arab Muslims and other Muslims of the world further cements his open minded attitude towards humanity even as he categorically and vigorously campaigned for Former President Trump.

He famously took Trump to a prominent Lebanese restaurant in Dearborn, a city known for its majority Arab American population, where Trump promised "peace in the Middle East."

Boulos joined a Middle East team with ardent supporters of Israel — real estate developer Steve Witkoff, who was appointed as special envoy to the region, and Mike Huckabee, an evangelical hardliner and Trump’s nominee for U.S. ambassador to Israel.

Charles Kushner, a convicted felon who received a pardon from Trump at the end of his first term, is likely to play a pivotal role in engaging with the French government. France is a key partner in enforcing the ceasefire in Lebanon and a vital ally in countering Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

Trump’s children are not expected to take on official roles in the second administration. Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, and Donald Jr., Trump’s oldest son, are offering behind-the-scenes advice during the transition.
