President
Donald Trump greeted Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa at the White
House on Monday gifting him two bottles of his signature ‘Victory
45-47’ scent, including one for the foreign leader’s wife while
cheekily asking asking “how many” he had.
The meeting
marked the first visit to the Oval Office by a Syrian head of state
since the country’s independence in 1946. Al-Sharaa, 43, a former
rebel commander once hunted by the U.S. with a $10 million bounty,
seized power after the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad last December.
In one clip in
the Oval Office that circulated online on Wednesday, the president
presented al-Sharaa with a bottle of his cologne, spraying it on the
foreign leader’s neck.
“It’s the
best fragrance,” Trump insisted, proceeding to spray a member of
the Syrian cabinet as well.
The $249
‘Victory 45-47’ fragrance Trump presented, a gold
statuette-shaped bottle in his image and engraved with his jagged
signature, is part of a line launched in July.
“Just take
that, the other one is for your wife,” Trump said, according to an
aide present for the exchange. “How many wives?”
Al-Sharaa
laughed: “One!”
Trump quipped,
“With you guys, I never know. Right?”
During the
encounter, Trump praised al-Sharaa as a “very strong leader” and
“tough guy,” adding: “He comes from a very tough place… we’ve
all had a rough past.”

Leaders Urge Trump to Save Syria's Christians as He Hosts President
al-Sharaa

Syian President Ahmed
al-Sharaa, whose al-Qaeda name is Abu Mohammad al-Julani, is being
welcomed in Washington Monday where he's meeting President Trump at
the White House, which is a first for any Syrian head of state in
history.
But just before this, some
100 influential Christian leaders sent a letter to President Trump
calling on him to raise the issue of minority rights and protection
of Syria's ancient Christian community.
The letter was led by Dede
Laugesen, president of Save the Persecuted Christians. The letter,
submitted to the White House Friday, highlighted that Trump has made
the protection of persecuted Christians in foreign lands like the
Middle East and Africa a priority, and that the issue must be pressed
firmly with Sharaa. Former member of Trump's cabinet, Dr. Ben Carson,
was among those who signed the urgent letter.

2025, in the Syrian village of As-Sura al-Kabira, the Orthodox Church
of St. Michael, belonging to the Antiochian Orthodox Church, was set
on fire and looted.
According to the
Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the attack on the church was
accompanied by the destruction of civilian homes, the burning of
residential buildings, and widespread looting.
The armed group
responsible for the attack stated that it consisted of members of the
Sunni Arab Al-Shaitat tribe. According to their own claims, the
militants’ goal is to establish full control over the village of
As-Sura al-Kabira by Expelling or
killing Christians.
Human rights
activists note that the nature of the attack – which included the
burning of an Orthodox church and the destruction of civilian
homes—may indicate a religious motivation. The actions of the group
may have been aimed at increasing pressure on the Christian and Druze
communities in the region.
Local sources
report that the village of As-Sura al-Kabira has come under the
control of the armed faction from the Al-Shaitat tribe.
It is also noted
that St. Michael’s Church is located in a settlement that had
already suffered destruction during the civil war. In particular, in
2014 the village briefly fell under the control of factions linked to
former Islamist coalition leader Ahmed al-Sharaa (Abu Mohammad
al-Julani) of Jabhat al-Nusra.
The recent
escalation of conflict in the al-Suwayda Governorate has led to
dozens of deaths and injuries, as well as the mass displacement of
civilians. The situation in the area is described as extremely
unstable.
Earlier, the UOJ
reported that in Syria, leaflets calling for the killing of
Christians had appeared on church doors.
The Mar Michael
Church, a modest stone structure with deep roots in local tradition,
has stood as a spiritual and cultural landmark in Al-Sura al-Kabira
for generations. More than just a house of worship, it served as a
gathering point for community events and a symbol of resilience in a
region long known for its religious and ethnic diversity.
“This church is
not made of stones,” Father al-Jut wrote. “It is built on faith —
faith that still lives in our hearts. And we will rebuild it.”
The burning of
Mar Michael Church follows weeks of intensifying violence in Suwayda
province, where clashes between Druze militias, tribal armed groups,
and government forces have pushed security in the region to the brink
of collapse. While much of the media attention has focused on urban
centers like Suwayda city, this attack highlights the growing
vulnerability of rural and minority communities caught in the
widening storm of violence.
Ahmed
Al-Sharaa’s forces are trying to terrorize the Christians (and
other religious minorities) into abandoning the country. This kind of
diabolic action is how “the Islamic world” was created.
