In Northern Ireland, violent, racist protests took place on several
evenings last week – driven by far-right activists. The trigger was
the release of a video of a brutal knife attack, for which a Sudanese
migrant was blamed.
Now the conflict in Belfast and the surrounding area is also becoming
a problem case for ZDF. Newly minted billionaire Elon Musk has
announced that he will take legal action against the public
broadcaster. The background is that the protests were broadcast on
the program „ZDF Heute Live“ on the 12th. June was linked to a
post by Musk on his news network X. Musk did the same thing on Monday
(15. June) clearly: „Legal action will be taken against ZDF because
of its outrageous lies.“
Specifically, the program stated: „A brutal attempted murder in the
street in Belfast. Someone is filming. The video goes viral. A racist
mob then hunts down migrants. This was called for by a British
right-wing extremist and tech billionaire, Elon Musk.“
A tweet as proof
The serious verdict was not elaborated upon; instead, a tweet from
the Tesla CEO was shown. This involved the further distribution of a
post by the well-known and now arrested British right-wing extremist
Tommy Robinson, to which Musk wrote „Only through CONTINUOUS and
LOUD RESISTANCE will there be any changes!!“
In the past, Robinson, along with other leading right-wing
extremists, has called for demonstrations against immigration in the
United Kingdom. Musk also shared a post from Rupert Lowe, chairman of
the far-right party Restore UK. The new party is trying to profit
from the radicalization of the right-wing spectrum on the island and
wants to win over voters for whom the Conservatives have become too
liberal and Reform UK too moderate.
The borderline TV report is still available online, but was given a
disclaimer by ZDF: „Note: At the beginning of the moderation of
this video, it states that after the brutal attempted murder, a
racist mob hunted down migrants. This was called for by a British
right-wing extremist and tech billionaire, Elon Musk. The wording is
imprecise and therefore misleading. Tommy Robinson has called for
protests following the knife attack in Belfast. The post was shared
by Elon Musk.“
The role of Julian Reichelt
Elon Musk apparently became aware of the program through an online
post by „Nius“ editor-in-chief Julian Reichelt. ZDF had described
him as a „fortress of lies“ in connection with its reporting on
the uprisings in Northern Ireland. Musk called Musk's alleged call to
hunt down migrants a „propaganda lie“ and demanded the
„destruction of ZDF“.
The fact is that Elon Musk did not directly call for people to take
to the streets to protest. However, it is also a fact that his
retweet spread 64 million more times, like the „Center for
Countering Digital Hate“ (NGO, which opposes hate speech, note. d.
Editor) proved.
Whether a lawsuit will actually be filed remains to be seen. Musk did
not comment further, and ZDF did not comment on the threat of legal
action.

has removed a social media video which included a racist clip
depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as apes.
The clip - set to the song
The Lion Sleeps Tonight - was at the end of a 62-second video he
shared containing claims about voter fraud in the 2020 presidential
election.
Republican Senator Tim
Scott - who is black - had called for the president to remove the
post, describing it as "the most racist thing I've seen out of
this White House".
The White House initially
defended the clip as an "internet meme video" and told
critics to "stop the fake outrage".
After a growing backlash,
including from several Republican senators, the post was removed from
Trump's Truth Social account and a White House official said that a
staffer had "erroneously" made the post.
The clip - which recalls
racist caricatures comparing black people to monkeys - appears to be
taken from an X post shared by conservative meme creator Xerias in
October.
That video also depicts
several other high-profile Democrats as animals, including New York

most crudely primitive form of collectivism. Primitive peoples have
always attacked other tribes because they saw them as a threat,
Racism is a virus that has
embedded itself into the heart and soul of Arab Muslim nations. Arab

Social Darwinism is a social

this ideology argued that human societies, like biological species,
are engaged in a struggle for survival, with certain races or groups
deemed more "fit" to succeed than others. This belief
system often supported racist ideologies, suggesting that the
dominance of European powers over African and Asian peoples was a
natural outcome of their perceived superiority. Social Darwinists
portrayed non-European races as less evolved, reinforcing harmful
stereotypes and justifying practices such as slavery and imperialism.
Although Darwin himself rejected these applications of his theory,
the views associated with Social Darwinism resonated with prevailing
racist attitudes of the time. Beyond racial considerations, Social
Darwinism also categorized individuals based on socioeconomic status,
contending that the wealthy were inherently more capable of survival
than the poor. While Social Darwinism has largely fallen out of favor
as a coherent ideology, elements of its legacy can still be seen in
contemporary discussions around genetic factors and societal
inequalities.
To Social Darwinists, the
conquest of African and Asian peoples in the late nineteenth century
by European empires proved the superiority of the white “race.”
White Europeans had supposedly reached the pinnacle of evolution,
while other races remained at a more primitive stage of development.
In particular, Social Darwinists portrayed Africans as childlike and
appraised their mental abilities as rudimentary. They regarded
Africans as close cousins of the ape rather than fully human. In the
United States, this attitude justified the enslavement of Africans.
Champions of slavery pointed to the civilizing influence of
captivity, claiming that slaves would regress to a barbaric state if
released.
It should be noted that Social
Darwinists focused on other factors besides race. They characterized
the poor, even of their own race or nationality, as relatively less
equipped for survival than the prosperous middle and upper classes.
Wealth itself suggested the fitness of the wealthy, and Social
Darwinists held welfare programs and charity to be an interference
with the natural law that had decreed the demise of the destitute in
the interests of the race. Social Darwinist principles also became
associated with the imperialist struggle between the so-called
advanced nations. According to the ethos prevailing among European
states in the late nineteenth century, the state that was most
successful in subjugating other peoples around the world and crowding
out its imperial rivals had the greatest claim to survival. In this
sense, Africans suffered both directly as a consequence of the racist
content of Social Darwinism and indirectly because of the resulting
contest between European states over control of the African
continent. Though Social Darwinism has all but disappeared as an
ideology, the debate over such issues as genetic determinants of
intelligence demonstrates that its legacy lives on.
