ዕርገት› በግእዝ ቋንቋ ማረግ፣ ከታች ወደ ላይ መውጣት ማለት ሲኾን የጌታችን ትንሣኤ በተከበረ በዐርባኛው ቀን የሚውለው ዐቢይ በዓልም ‹ዕርገት› ይባላል (ኪዳነ ወልድ ክፍሌ፣ ገጽ ፯፻፷)፡፡ በዓለ ዕርገት ጌታችን አምላካችንና መድኀኒታችን ኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ ከሙታን ከተነሣ በኋላ ለዐርባ ቀናት በግልጽም በስውርም ለቅዱሳን ሐዋርያትና ለቅዱሳት አንስት መጽሐፈ ኪዳንን፣ ትርጓሜ መጻሕፍትን፣ ምሥጢራትን፣ ሕግጋትንና ቀኖናተ ቤተ ክርስቲያንን ሲያስተምር ቆይቶ ወደ ቀደመ ዙፋኑ ወደ ሰማይ በክብር በምስጋና ማረጉን በደስታ የምንዘክርበት ዐቢይ በዓል ነው፡፡ በዓለ ዕርገት በቤተ ክርስቲያናችን በየዓመቱ በድምቀት ይከበራል፡፡ በዓሉ የሚውልበት ዕለት ሐሙስን ባይለቅም ቀኑ ግን የአጽዋማትና በዓላት ማውጫ ቀመርን ተከትሎ ከፍ እና ዝቅ ይላል፡፡

በዚህ መሠረት የዘንድሮው በዓለ ዕርገት ግንቦት ፳፩ ቀን ፳፻፲፯ ዓ.ም ይውላል ማለት ነው፡፡ ከጌታችን የዕርገት በዓል ጀምሮ (ከበዓለ ትንሣኤ ዐርባኛው ቀን) እስከ በዓለ ጰራቅሊጦስ ዋዜማ (ዐርባ ዘጠነኛው ቀን) ድረስ ያለው ወቅትም ‹ዘመነ ዕርገት› ተብሎ ይጠራል፡፡ በዘመነ ዕርገት ውስጥ በሚገኘው እሑድ (ሰንበት) ሌሊት ሊቃውንቱ የሚያደርሱት መዝሙርም ‹‹በሰንበት ዐርገ ሐመረ›› የሚል ሲኾን ይኸውም ጌታችን በሰንበት ወደ ታንኳ በመውጣት ባሕርንና ነፋሳትን እንደ ገሠፀ፤ ሐዋርያቱንም ‹‹ጥርጥር ወደ ልቡናችሁ አይግባ፤ አትጠራጠሩ›› እያለ በሃይማኖት ስለ መጽናት እንዳስተማራቸው፤ እንደዚሁም ወንጌልን ይሰብኩ፣ ያስተምሩ ዘንድ በመላው ዓለም እንደሚልካቸው፤ በሰማያዊ መንግሥቱ ይኖሩ ዘንድም ዳግመኛ መጥቶ እንደሚወስዳቸው የሚያስገነዝብ መልእክት አለው (ሉቃ.፰፥፳፪-፳፬፤ ዮሐ.፲፬፥፪፤ ፳፥፳፩)፡፡

በበዓለ ዕርገት ሊቃውንቱ ሌሊት በማኅሌት፣ በዝማሬ እግዚአብሔርን ሲያመሰግኑ ያድራሉ፡፡ ሥርዓተ ማኅሌቱ እንዳበቃ የሚሰበከው የነግህ ምስባክም፡- ‹‹ዘምሩ ለእግዚአብሔር ዘዐርገ ውስተ ሰማይ ሰማይ ዘመንገለ ጽባሕ ናሁ ይሁብ ቃሎ ቃለ ኃይል›› የሚለው የዳዊት መዝሙር ሲኾን፣ ቀጥተኛ ትርጕሙ፡- ‹‹በምሥራቅ በኩል ወደ ሰማየ ሰማያት ለወጣ (ላረገ) ለእግዚአብሔር ዘምሩ፤ የኀይል የኾነውን ቃሉን እነሆ ይሰጣል፤›› ማለት ነው (መዝ.፷፯፥፴፫)፡፡ ምሥጢራዊ ትርጕሙ ደግሞ ‹‹ነፍሳትን ይዞ ከሲኦል ወደ ገነት ለወጣ፤ አንድም በደብረ ዘይት በኩል ላረገ ለእግዚአብሔር ምስጋና አቅርቡ›› የሚል መልእክት አለው፡፡ እንደዚሁም ጌታችን በዐረገ በዐሥረኛው ቀን ‹የኀይል ቃል› የተባለ መንፈስ ቅዱስን ለሐዋርያት እንደ ላከላቸው፤ በተጨማሪም ጌታችን በሕያዋን እና በሙታን (በጻድቃን እና በኃጥአን) ላይ ለመፍረድ ዳግም እንደሚመጣ፤ እኛም ይህንን የጌታችንን የማዳን ሥራ እያደነቅን ለእርሱ ምስጋና፣ ዝማሬ ማቅረብ እንደሚገባን ያስረዳናል – ምስባኩ፡፡

😔 Satellite imagery confirms that the regime demolished the church in Artsakh’s former capital city of Stepanakert.

The sustained threats to Armenian religious and cultural heritage across Artsakh (also known as Nagorno-Karabakh) have reached a new level following reports that the Azerbaijani regime has razed another prominent church in the region.

Satellite imagery obtained by Caucasus Heritage Watch (CHW) confirmed that the Holy Mother of God Church, which stood in the former capital city of Stepanakert, was demolished within the last eight weeks.

The Artsakh Tourism and Cultural Development Agency shared the news of the church’s destruction on social media on Tuesday, April 21, only three days before the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. Though the agency did not share photos of the demolition in its notice, CHW’s researchers were able to pinpoint supporting photographic evidence within a day by pulling images from the Sentinel-2 satellite from March 3 and April 2.

“Higher resolution imagery will provide a clearer picture in the coming weeks,” the group of scholars said in a statement. “CHW will also continue working with satellite image providers to try to provide greater resolution on the timing of the destruction.”

Unlike the centuries-old churches and burial grounds that have been damaged, appropriated, or destroyed by the Azerbaijani regime since the forced displacement of over 130,000 Armenians in September 2023, the Holy Mother of God Church was consecrated in 2019 after 12 years of construction. During the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War in 2020, the church served as a bomb shelter amid the Azerbaijani bombardment of Stepanakert.

Scholars have warned that Azerbaijan’s targeted destruction of these sites, having accelerated since the swift and deadly 2023 takeover of the Artsakh region, amounts to “cultural genocide.”

News of the latest demolition comes shortly after the resignation of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Director Edita Gzoyan at the request of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. While accompanying United States Vice President JD Vance and his wife for a visit to the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial complex in Yerevan last February, Gzoyan reportedly presented Vance with a book about Artsakh, which Pashinyan interpreted as a “security issue.”

“On my instructions, yes, I asked her to write a resignation letter. I considered it a provocative act, contrary to the foreign policy pursued by the government,” Pashinyan reportedly said at a briefing.

In his campaign for reelection coming up on June 7, Pashinyan, who has long been blamed for the dissolution of the 33-year-old autonomous state, has repeatedly reiterated that further dialogue surrounding Artsakh threatens the 2025 peace agreement in which Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to recognize each other’s (newly established) territorial integrity. On April 20, Pashinyan most recently emphasized that the “Karabakh topic,” as in the push for negotiating the ethnic Armenian population’s right of return to the region, has been closed for the sake of peacekeeping.

Yes, Holy Fire has descended at about 2:14 PM in Church of Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.

It appeared in the edicule (the small chapel built over the burial place of Christ) about five minutes after the Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem, Theophilos III, entered there to patiently pray and wait.

After the Fire’s descent, the Patriarch passed the holy gift to the faithful who lit from it their bundles of 33 candles, per the age of Christ at the time of His Crucifixion and Resurrection.

Though the Holy Sepulchre was closed to pilgrims for forty days from the start of the war with Iran, it reopened on Holy Thursday, in time for the Holy Fire and Paschal services.

The descent of the Light was preceded by a complex ceremony: The doors of the Sepulchre were sealed with a large wax seal as a sign that its inspection had finished, and in it was found nothing that would allow the Patriarch of Jerusalem to light the Fire by any ordinary means.

Shortly before the arrival of Patriarch Theophilos, the seal was removed from the door of the edicule, and a large lampada and 33 candles were carried into the Tomb. Then the Patriarch entered and began to wait. Those present continually prayed for the granting of the Fire until the time of its appearing.

ሥነ ሥርዓቱ የሚጀምረው በግሪክ ኦርቶዶክስ ፓትርያርክ (ወይም በሌላ የኦርቶዶክስ ሊቀ ጳጳስ) በቤተክርስቲያኑ ውስጥ ወደ ክርስቶስ ባዶ መካነ መቃብር ወርዶ ልዩ ጸሎቶችን በማንበብ ነው። ኦርቶዶክስ ያልሆነ ክርስቲያን ደግሞ ፓትርያርኩ ሻማዎቹን ለማብራት የሚጠቀሙባቸው የነዳጅ ዘይት መብራቶች በውስጣቸው እንዳይቃጠሉ ለማድረግ መቃብር (አነስተኛ መቃብር ዙሪያ ያለውን ትንሽ መዋቅር) እንደሚመረምሩ ተገልጻል፡፡

ከመቃብሩ በላይ እና በዙሪያው በተከበበች ቤተክርስቲያን ውስጥ ፣ ምዕመናን በአንድ ድምፅ “ኪራላይሶን”(እግዚኦ መሐረነ ክርስቶስ!)ያሰማሉ፡፡ ቆይታው ረጅም ወይም አጭር ሊሆን ይችላል ግን ውሎ አድሮ ፓትርያርኩ ለብቻቸው በሚጸልዩበት መቃብር ላይ እንደሚታዩ ይነገራል ፡፡ ከዛም ፓትርያርኩ ከዚህ ተዓምራዊ ነበልባል ሻማዎቹን በማቀጣጠል ደወሎችን እየደወሉ በምዕመናኑ መካከል ተገኝተው እሳቱን ወደ ሌሎች ቀሳውስት ያስተላልፋሉ፡፡ በዚህ ወቅት ጨለማ የነበረው የቤተ ክርስቲያን ሕንፃ በተዓምራዊው የተባረክ/ ቅዱስ እሳት ያበራል፡፡

ለመጀመሪያዎቹ በርካታ ደቂቃዎች እሳቱ ይቀጣጠላል ነገር ግን አይባላም ፡፡ በዚህን ጊዜ ፣ ብዙ ምዕመናን ፊታቸውን እና እጆቻቸውን ሳይቃጠሉና ምንም ጉዳት ሳይደርስባቸው በእሳቱ ነበልባል ውስጥ ይታጠባሉ፡፡ እሳቱ ከሻማ ወደ ሻማ ከተላለፈ በኋላ በሩቅ በሰፊው እንዲሰራጭ በመብራት ሳጥን ውስጥ ይቀመጣል፡፡

❖ The Miracle of Holy Fire (or Holy Light) is the most important ritual in Christianity and it happens year after year in the Tomb of Christ, inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.

It is an annual celebration of Christ's victory over death and Jesus himself participates.

Thousands of Christians throng Jerusalem for the traditional Holy Fire rite ahead of the Orthodox Easter, despite a security clampdown in the holy city.

Every Orthodox Holy Saturday in Jerusalem’s Church of the Holy Sepulcher, thousands gather to witness a flame “miraculously” appearing in the tomb of Jesus.

Orthodox Christians believe it’s a potent symbol of the resurrection.

It’s the Church's most important miracle. And it’s believed to have been happening annually for the past 1,200 years.

The ritual begins with the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem (or another Orthodox archbishop), descending into the empty tomb of Christ within the church and reciting special prayers. A non-Orthodox Christian is also said to examine the edicule (a small structure surrounding the tomb) to make sure no oil lamps have been left burning inside that the patriarch could use to light his candles.

In the crowded church above the tomb and surrounding the edicule, the faithful chant with one voice “Kyrie eleison” (Lord, have mercy). The wait might be long or short but eventually a light is said to appear in the tomb where the patriarch has been praying alone. He then lights his candles from this miraculous flame and, accompanied by the pealing of bells, emerges to spread the fire among the crowd. The oncedark church becomes illuminated by the miraculous Holy Fire.

It is said that for the first several minutes the fire burns, but does not consume. During this time, many of the faithful bathe their faces and hands in the flame, apparently without being harmed. The flame is passed from candle to candle and then placed in lanterns so that it can be spread far and wide.
