According to his homily, St Gabriel is one of the archangels who strongly contended for the honor and wisdom of God when the fraud angle wished to be the highest in heaven, even above God. During that time of mystification, St. Gabriel heartened his fellow angles saying, "we shall persist till we realize our Creator”.

All heaven fell in commotion as Satan attempted to conquer the Son of God and those who were submissive to his will. But the good angels prevailed, and Satan, with his followers, was driven from heaven. (Isaiah 14:12-20; Ezekiel 28:1-19; Revelation 12:7-9)

St Gabriel is also the angel who announced to Zacharias the priest that his sterile wife will give birth to a son who will be called John (Luke 1:13). He mentioned some prophecies about that son, which shows that angels are capable of knowing what will happen in the future as revealed to them by God. Gabriel is also the one who was sent to the Holy Virgin and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God" (Luke 1:35).

Gabriel also clarifies visions when ordered by God. This appears in the vision of the prophet Daniel. When Daniel was perplexed with the vision, the Lord sent Gabriel to clarify the meaning of the vision to Daniel. (Dan. 8:16) In the subsequent chapter, the angel said, “O Daniel, I now come forth to give you skill and understanding.” (Dan.9: 22)

ቅዱስ ገብርኤል ቅዱሳን ይሆኑ ዘንድ ለተጠሩት መንፈሳዊ እውቀቱን የሚያካፍላቸው መልአክ ብቻ አይደለም፤ ለእግዚአብሔር በመገዛታቸው ምክንያት ከአላውያን ገዢዎች ከሚደርስባቸው መከራም የሚታደጋቸው መልአክም ነው፡፡ የፋርስ ንጉሥ የነበረው ናብከደነፆር እግዚአብሔር አምላክ ምድሪቱን ሁሉ ሲያስገዛለት በትዕቢት ተሞልቶ “በኃይሌ አደርጋለሁ፣ በማስተዋል ጥበቤም የአሕዛብን ድንበሮች አርቃለሁ፣ ሀብታቸውንም እዘርፋለሁ፣ የሚቀመጡባቸውንም ከተሞች አናውጣለሁ፣ በእጄም ዓለምን ሁሉ እንደ ወፍ ቤት እሰበስባለሁ፣ እንደ ተተወ እንቁላልም አወስዳቸዋለሁ፤ከእኔም የሚያመልጥ የለም የሚቃወመኝም የለም፡፡”[ኢሳ.፲፥፲፫፡፲፬] ብሎ በመታበይ የወርቅ ጣዖትን አሠርቶ ዱራ(አዱራን) በሚባል ስፍራ ላይ አቆመው፡፡ በግዛቱ በልዩ ልዩ የሥልጣን እርከን ላይ ያሉትን ሹማምንቱንና ገዢዎችን ሰበሰባቸው፤ “የመለከትና የእንቢልታ የመሰንቆና የክራር የበገናና የዋሽንትን የዘፈንንም ሁሉ ድምፅ በሰማችሁ ጊዜ ወድቃችሁ ንጉሥ ናብከደነፆር ላቆመው ለወርቁ ምስል ስገዱ፡፡ ወድቆም ለማይሰግድ በዚያን ጊዜ በሚነድድ እሳት እቶን ውስጥ ይጣል” ብሎ አዋጅ አስነገረ፡፡ ይህን አዋጅ የሰሙ የንጉሥ ሹማምንት ሁሉ የመለከቱና የእንቢልታው እንዲህም የዘፈን ድምፅ በተሰማ ጊዜ ተደፍተው ለወርቁ ምስል ሰገዱ፡፡ በባቢሎን አውራጃዎች ላይ የተሾሙ አዛርያ (ሲድራቅ)፣ አናንያና (ሚሳቅ) ሚሳኤል(አብደናጎ) ግን ንጉሥ ላቆመው ምስል አልሰገዱም፡፡ ነገር ሠሪዎችም ይህንን ወሬ ለንጉሥ ነገሩት፤ ንጉሥም እጅግ ተቆጥቶ ወደ እርሱ አስጠራቸው፡፡ እርሱ ላቆመው ለወርቅ ምስል ያልሰገዱ እንደሆነ እጅና እግራቸውን ታስረው ወደ እቶን እሳቱ እንደሚጣሉ አስጠነቀቃቸው፡፡ ሠልስቱ ደቂቅ ግን “ናብከደነፆር ሆይ! በዚህ ነገር እንመልስልህ ዘንድ አንፈልግም፡፡ ንጉሥ ሆይ! እኛ የምናመልከው አምላክ በሰማይ አለ፣ ከሚነደውም ከእሳቱ እቶን ያድነን ዘንድ ይችላል፤ ከእጅህም ያድነናል፤ ንጉሥ ሆይ! ይህም ባይሆን አማልክትህን አንዳናመልክ፣ ላቆምኸውም ለወርቁ ምስል እንዳንሰግድለት እወቅ” ብለው መለሱለት፡፡ የንጉሥ ናብከደነፆር ቁጣ ከፊት ይልቅ እጅግ ነደደ እሳቱንም ሰባት እጥፍ እንዲያቀጣጥሉና እነዚህን ሦስት ብላቴኖች እጅና እግራቸውን አስረው ከእነ ማዕረገ ልብሳቸው ከእቶን እሳት ውስጥ እንዲጨምሩአቸው ትእዛዝን አስተላለፈ፡፡ ትእዛዙ አስቸኳይ ነበርና ወደ እሳት ጣሏቸው: ወደ እሳቱ የጣሏቸውም ኃያላን በእሳቱ ወላፈን ተገርፈው ሞቱ፡፡ እንዲህ ሲሆን ሳለ ግን ሠልስቱ ደቂቅ ወደ አምላካቸው “በፍጹም ልባችን እናምንሃለን፣ እንፈራሃለን፣ አታሳፍረን እንጂ ገጸ ረድኤትህንም እንፈልጋለን፡፡” እያሉ ይጸልዩ ነበር፡፡ እግዚአብሔር አምላክ ጸሎታቸውን ተቀበለ፤ መልአኩ ቅዱስ ገብርኤልንም ከመጣባቸው መከራ ይታደጋቸው ዘንድ ላከው፡፡ ቅዱስ ገብርኤልም እስራታቸውን ፈታ፤ እሳቱን እንደ ውኃ አቀዘቀዘው፡፡

ሠልስቱ ደቂቅም መልአኩን ልኮ ከዚህ እቶን እሳት ያዳናቸውን አምላክ “የአባቶቻችን አምላክ እግዚአብሔር ይክበር: ስምህም ለዘለዓለም የተመሰገነና የከበረ ነው” በማለት አመሰገኑት፡፡ ንጉሥ ናብከደነፆርም ሠልስቱ ደቂቅ እሳቱ አንዳች ጉዳት ሳያደርስባቸው በእሳት ውስጥ ሲመላለሱ ከእነርሱ ጋር የሰው መልክ ያለው ነገር ግን የአምላክን ልጅ የሚመስል መልአክ ተመለከተ፡፡ መንፈስ ቅዱስ ሊቀ ካህናቱን ቀያፋን ፊቱን ጸፍቶ አፉን ከፍቶ “ሕዝቡ ሁሉ ከሚጠፋ አንድ ሰው ስለሕዝቡ ይሞት ዘንድ እንዲሻለን አታስቡምን”[ዮሐ.፲፩፡፵፱] ብሎ እንዳናገረው እንዲሁ ናብከደነፆርንም “እነሆ እኔ የተፈቱ በእሳቱም መካከል የሚመላለሱ አራት ሰዎችን በዚያ አያለሁ ምንም የነካቸው የለም፤የአራተኛውም መልክ የእግዚአብሔርን ልጅ ይመስላል” ብሎ እንዲናገር አደረገው፡፡ የእግዚአብሔር ልጅን መልክ ያለው: በኋላም መልአክ ብሎ የተናገረለት ቅዱስ ገብርኤልን ነበር፡፡

እርሱ ስለመሆኑ ለነብዩ ዳንኤል በተገለጠበት ግርማ ማረጋገጥ እንችላለን፡፡ ናብከደነፆርም ወደ እሳቱ እቶን በመቅረብ እነዚህ ብላቴኖችን “እናንተ የልዑል አምላክ ባሮች ሲድራቅና ሚሳቅ አብደናጎም ኑ ውጡ ብሎ ተናገራቸው፡፡” እነርሱም ከእሳቱ ወጡ ሹማምንቱና መኳንንቱ፣ አማካሪዎችና የአገር ገዢዎች ሁሉ እሳቱ በእነዚህ ብላቴኖች ላይ አንዳች አቅም እንዳልነበረው፣ ከጠጉራቸው ቅንጣት አንዱን እንኳ እንዳላቃጠለው፣ ሰናፊናቸውም እንዳልተለወጠ፣ የእሳቱም ሽታ እንዳልደረሰባቸው ተመለከቱ፡፡ ንጉሥ ናብከደነፆርም መልአኩን ልኮ ያዳናቸውን የእነዚህን ቅዱሳንን አምላክ አመሰገነ፡፡ በእነርሱ አምላክ ላይም የስድብን ቃል የሚናገር ሰው እንደሚገደልና ቤቱም የጉድፍ መጣያ እንዲሆን አዋጅ አስነገረ፡፡ አዛርያ አናንያ ሚሳኤልም በንጉሡና በሹማምነቱ ዘንድ ሞገስ አገኙ በክብርም ከፍ ከፍ አሉ፡፡[ዳን.፫]

ስለዚህም ቤተ ክርስቲያን መንጎቹዋ የእምነትን ፍሬ ከእነዚህ ብላቴኖች ተምረው እግዚአብሔርን በማምለክ እንዲጸኑና የመልአኩን የቅዱስ ገብርኤልን ተራዳኢነት እንዲረዱ በታኅሣሥ ፲፱ ቀን ይህን ዕለት ትዘክራለች፤ በታላቅ ድምቀትም ታከብረዋለች፡፡ እንደ ቤተ ክርስቲያን አስተምህሮ እምነት በድርጊት ሊታይ የሚገባው ክርስቲያናዊ ተግባር ነው፡፡ በክርስቶስ ኢየሱስ አምናለሁ የሚል ሁሉ ካመነበት ጊዜ አንስቶ ክርስቶስን መስሎ ለመኖር ሊተጋና መስሎ ሊመላለስ ይገባዋል፡፡ በሠልስቱ ደቂቅ የታየው እምነት በአንድ ጀምበር የተገነባ እምነት ሳይሆን ከልጅነታቸው ጀምሮ በአንድ እግዚአብሔር ታምነው በቅድስና ሕይወት በመመላለስ የመጣ እምነት ነው፡፡ እነዚህ ብላቴኖች በእግዚአብሔር ዘንድ የሚያገኙትን የድል አክሊል ተስፋ አድርገዋልና አርባ ዘጠኝ ክንድ ያህል የነደደውን የእሳት እቶን አላስፈራቸውም፤ በእግዚአብሔር ላይ ያላቸው ጽኑ እምነት በእሳት ተቃጥለው ለመሞት እንኳ አስጨከናቸው፡፡ እንዲህም ሆነው በመገኘታቸው በእምነታቸው እግዚአብሔርን ደስ አሰኙት፤ ስለዚህም እግዚአብሔር ባለሟሉን ቅዱስ ገብርኤልን በመላክ ከእሳቱ እቶን ታደጋቸው፡፡

መጀመሪያውም ቃል የነፍሳት ጌታን ለዘላለሙ ያመሰግነዋል። /ሚካኤል ነው/ ክርስቶስን ሲያመሰግነው ለመላእክት ጌታ ያመኑ ደናግልንም ሲያመሰግናቸው ሁለተኛውን ቃለ ሰማሁ። /ሩፋኤል ነው/ በዚህ ዓለም ስለሚኖሩ በመላእከት ጌታ ስምም አምነው ስለሚለምኑ ሰዎች ፈጽመው ሲለምኑ ሦስተኛው ቃለ ሰማሁ። /ገብርኤል ነው ሰይጣናትን አስወጥቶ ሲሰዳቸው አራተኛውንም ቃለ ሰማሁ። /ፋኑኤል ነው/ በዚህ ዓለም የሚኖሩ ሰዎችን ያጣሏቸው ዘንድ ወደ መላእክት ጌታ እንዲገቡ አይተዋቸውም። ከዚህም በኋላ ከኔ ጋር የሚኖር ፍቅር አንድነት ያለው መላኩን ጠየቅሁት የተሠወረውንም ሁሉ የገለጠልኝ እሱ ነው። ፊታቸውን ያየሁት ቃላቸውንም የሰማኋቸው እኔም የቈጠርኋቸው እኒህ አራቱ እነማናቸው ብዬ ጠየቅሁት። እሱም መጀመርያው ቃል ይቅር የሚል ከመዓትም የራቀ ቅዱስ ሚካኤል ነው አለኝ።

✞ ጦርነቱ መንፈሳዊ ነው፤ ታቦተ ጽዮንም ውጊያ ላይ ነው፤ ይህም ከአክሱም ጽዮን ጋር የተያያዘ ነው ፥ ኃያሉ መልአክ ቅዱስ ገብርኤል የሃገራችንን የውስጥና የውጭ ጠላቶች በሰይፉ ቀጥቅጦ ይጣላቸው ✞
