Wednesday, March 11, 2026: A pick-up truck carrying dozens of people
to a funeral in Sudan’s southern Kordofan region was hit by a drone
strike, killing 40.
Sudan
has for nearly three years been gripped by a war between its regular
army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, killing tens of
thousands and displacing millions more.
Kordofan
is currently the fiercest battlefield, where near-daily drone strikes
kill dozens at a time.
“Yesterday,
40 people, mostly women, were killed when their pick-up truck was hit
by a drone strike on the road between Abu Zabad and El-Fula,” two
towns in Sudan’s West Kordofan state, a medical source at Abu Zabad
Hospital said, requesting anonymity for his safety.
“They
were on their way to El-Fula for a funeral, which is why several
members of the same family died,” Abu Zabad resident Hamad Abdallah
added, saying they had all been “buried in the same place.”
Several key foreign
actors, including Iran and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), have
contributed to the civil war in Sudan for over a year by sending
drones to the opposing sides. Iran has sent drones to support the
Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in hope of securing an Iranian Red Sea
naval base in exchange. The UAE has backed the RSF to protect its
economic and political influence in Sudan and the Red Sea through its
ties with the RSF leader.

Police Chief Todd Chamberlain met with Ethiopian residents on Friday,
March 6, to talk about safety within the city, telling them that
immigration enforcement and surveillance powered by artificial
intelligence are nothing to worry about.
The
meeting was hosted by the Colorado Ethiopian Community, an
Aurora-based group, at their offices on 1450 South Havana Street.
According to the United States Census Bureau, nearly a quarter of
Aurora’s 400,000 residents are immigrants, fortifying its claim to
be “the world in a city.” Mexican immigrants account for more
than a third of the local immigrant population, at around 33,000
people. Ethiopians are the second-largest minority group in Aurora,
data shows, at over 5,000 people, with over 80 percent of them having

woman who said she owned an auto dealership thanked Chamberlain for
the police’s role in reducing homelessness, and a man who
identified himself as a pastor told Chamberlain that homeless
residents loitering and defecating in front of establishments is the
biggest problem in his community, but he also thanked the police
chief.
“We
have been victimized too often,” the pastor said. “But right now,
[over] the past year, we had a decrease in crime, and we have a
little bit safer working environment. I would like to express my
appreciation for what you have been doing.”
Former
Aurora City Councilman Amsalu Kassaw, who spent a brief time as a
member of the council’s conservative majority, echoed worries about
property crime.
“Our
Ethiopian community is concerned with theft and crime. A lot of our
community is right here on Havana [Street]; they own a lot of small
businesses,” Kassaw said. “They do have a lot of homeless that
break into their stores. It is getting better every day, but the
community is really worrying about theft and crime.”

Two
attacks by Muslim extremists have shocked a
community in the Oromia region of Ethiopia at the end of February.
Almost 30 believers have been killed. Please pray.
On
26 February, extremists stormed a market in the east Arsi Zone of the
Oromia Region in Ethiopia, opening fire on citizens. Twenty Orthodox
Christians were killed, as well as one Muslim guard, whilst some have
disappeared – likely kidnapped.
Local
sources report that a priest was amongst those killed when the
attackers entered a church shouting religious chants before shooting
at those inside. The attackers moved on to set fire to homes and
crops, causing panic to spread and many residents to flee to nearby
towns for refuge.
This
was a historically peaceful area with a blend of Muslims and Orthodox
Christians. But, two days later, on 28 February, more attackers
struck the community once again, killing seven people inside a
church.
Growing Tensions
According
to locals, tensions have been increasing between different groups
within the community. Members of the Orthodox Church say authorities
are encouraging Muslim settlement and offering Muslim citizens
government employment over Orthodox believers.

Open Doors research indicates the targeted and organised nature of
the attacks against Orthodox Christians. Fikiru Mehari*, east Africa
expert on persecution, says, “These incidents frequently involve
attacks on church members and the deliberate targeting of church
leaders. With state protection minimal, these Orthodox communities

says: “Not only are people displaced as a result of the attacks,
but also likely severely traumatised. These Orthodox and Muslim
communities have lived in relative peace alongside each other for
years, and from our experience, these attacks can erode the social
cohesion and peace that is necessary for communities to thrive.

urge the Ethiopian government on every level to do everything in its
power to protect vulnerable communities in Oromia and ensure that

senator warns of ‘consequences’ if kingdom does not join US

honor a long-sought defense agreement with Saudi Arabia, saying the
