🔥 A rare tornado and severe thunderstorms swept through northern districts of Rome on Wednesday morning, causing widespread damage, flash flooding and major traffic disruption across the Italian capital.
The violent weather struck as residents returned to work and school following the long weekend, with powerful winds toppling around 50 trees across areas including Conca d’Oro, Monte Sacro and Talenti.
Several parked vehicles were crushed by falling trees, while roads became gridlocked due to flooding and debris.
One driver narrowly escaped death after a tree collapsed onto his Maserati near Via dei Prati Fiscali.
“Suddenly, I saw this tree swinging, but in a second, it fell on my head,” he told local media, saying the tree missed him by just centimetres.
Video shared online showed damaged roofs, destroyed market stalls and debris being swept through streets by the storm.
Emergency crews and firefighters were deployed across the city to clear roads, secure dangerous structures and respond to dozens of incidents.
Authorities said no serious injuries were reported despite the scale of the destruction.
