Risks of renewed
ethnic-based violence in Ethiopia are increasing amid unresolved
humanitarian crises from the 2020-2022 civil war in Tigray,
inadequate Pretoria Peace Agreement implementation, and renewed
military escalation. Of particular concern is an August 2026
directive issued by the Amhara Regional National Government Police
Commission’s Information and Monitoring Department reportedly
calling for the identification, monitoring, and control of
individuals based on their ethnic identity and perceived political
affiliations, explicitly including people of Tigrayan origin and
those perceived to have affiliations with the Tigray People’s
Liberation Front (TPLF).
This directive should be
treated as an urgent atrocity prevention warning indicator. During
2020-2022 conflict, Tigrayan civilians were subjected to mass
killings, widespread conflict-related sexual violence, and ethnic
cleansing, with credible independent reports of genocide, war crimes,
and crimes against humanity committed against Tigrayans. The explicit
designation of Tigrayan ethnicity as a basis for security monitoring
raises serious concerns about the potential recurrence of systematic
persecution, ethnic profiling, and collective targeting. The
strongest predictor of future mass atrocities is the existence of
past atrocities, particularly in cases where perpetrators have not
been held accountable. In this context, the renewed identification
and classification of the same ethnic population previously targeted
warrants immediate preventive action.
The Tigray War and the
Pretoria Peace Agreement
The Tigray war resulted in
widespread allegations and documentation of mass atrocities committed
against Tigrayan civilians. The conflict formally ended with the
signing of the Pretoria Peace Agreement on Nov. 2, 2022, between the
government of Ethiopia and the TPLF. It established a permanent
cessation of hostilities and provided a framework for ending the
conflict.
Despite successfully
reducing large-scale fighting, the agreement has failed to resolve
many of the political, territorial, humanitarian, and accountability
issues underlying the conflict. Key provisions that remain incomplete
or contested include the disarmament of armed groups, return of
displaced populations, restoration of services, and transitional
justice. The resulting peace remains fragile, with many warning flags
raised since the Pretoria Agreement’s signing, stressing renewed
political tensions and localized violence, raising concerns that
Ethiopia could again descend into large-scale conflict.
Evidence of Genocidal
Violence During the Tigray War
Research published by New
Lines Institute in 2024 concluded there is substantial evidence that
Ethiopian National Defense Forces, Eritrean forces, and allied
regional militias acted with the intent to destroy, in whole or in
part, the Tigrayan ethnic group. The analysis identified evidence
corresponding to four acts prohibited under the Genocide Convention:
Killing members of
the group, including widespread attacks against Tigrayan civilians.
Causing serious
bodily or mental harm, through killings, torture, sexual violence,
forced displacement, and other abuses.
Deliberately
inflicting conditions of life calculated to bring about the group’s
physical destruction, including starvation and the systematic
deprivation of humanitarian assistance.
Imposing measures
intended to prevent births, including reproductive and sexual
violence.
The report also documented
patterns of inflammatory rhetoric and hate speech by public officials
and other actors that contributed to the targeting and persecution of
Tigrayans.
Subsequent research by New
Lines and other independent investigations documented extensive
conflict-related sexual and reproductive violence against Tigrayans.
Reported abuses included rape, gang rape, sexual slavery, forced
nudity, reproductive mutilation, and other forms of sexual violence.
Research identified sexual and reproductive violence as a central
component of the broader campaign of ethnic persecution and
destruction targeting Tigrayan communities, including rape intended
to cause forced pregnancies and reproductive mutilation aimed at
causing infertility and preventing births.
Humanitarian Crisis
The humanitarian
consequences of the war remain severe despite the cessation of
large-scale hostilities. An estimated 2 million people remain
internally displaced in Ethiopia, while 70,000 remain in refugee
settlements in neighboring Sudan, now facing additional insecurity
amid its ongoing civil war. Hundreds of thousands of survivors of
conflict-related sexual violence continue to lack adequate access to
justice, psychosocial support, healthcare, and reparations. Around 21
million people across Ethiopia desperately need humanitarian
assistance, with aid groups reporting famine and severe food, water,
and medical shortages.
Increasing Risks of
Renewed Violence
Political polarization
within Ethiopia after Pretoria has intensified, accompanied by
increasingly divisive rhetoric, inflammatory narratives, and
declining public trust. The government of Tigray, human rights
organizations, civil society advocates, and members of the Tigrayan
diaspora have repeatedly warned that the underlying conflict remains
unresolved and that Tigray occupies an increasingly precarious
position between fragile peace and renewed war. Concerns have also
been raised regarding alleged violations of the Pretoria Agreement by
Prime Monster Abiy Ahmed’s regime.
Ethiopia held
parliamentary elections in June 2026 that some observers
characterized as a sham, with genocidal Abiy Ahmed's ruling party
securing more than 90% of parliamentary seats. Voting did not take
place in Tigray and was suspended in parts of Amhara and Oromia, with
more than 140 polling stations reportedly closed across the country.
Opposition parties were also banned from participating, and many
seats were uncontested, further raising concerns about the
credibility and competitiveness of the election.
On Aug. 1, 2026,of Nobel
Peace Laureat Abiy Ahmed’s genocidal Oromo Islamic Regime launched
a large-scale military offensive in the Shererina area of Western
Tigray. The escalation represents a significant threat to the already
fragile post-Pretoria security environment. The TLPF has accused the
Ethiopian government of initiating “open war” in violation of the
Pretoria Agreement, risking a renewed cycle of protracted conflict.
Shortly after the
offensive began, Security and Justice for Tigrayans, a Washington,
D.C.-based diaspora civil society and advocacy group, and affiliated
organizations raised concerns regarding the Amhara police commission
directive. According to the organizations raising the alarm, the
reportedly identifies Tigrayan ethnicity and perceived affiliation
with the TPLF as relevant criteria for security monitoring.
The explicit linkage of
ethnic identity with political or security affiliation risks
portraying an entire ethnic population as a potential security
threat, thus creating conditions conducive to a renewal of collective
targeting, discrimination, and persecution. In light of the
documented history of genocidal violence against Tigrayan civilians,
the lack of comprehensive accountability, rising political
polarization and inflammatory rhetoric, and renewed military activity
in and around Tigray, this development constitutes a significant
early warning indicator of potential renewed mass atrocities.

Tonight,
27th/28th August a blood moon partial eclipse (covering about 93% to
96% of the Moon's surface) is looming, a sign that “throughout
human history many cultures have considered … a very ominous sign.”
Multiple
passages in the Bible describe such events, including Joel 2:31, Acts
2:20, and Revelation 6:12, which describe the moon becoming like
blood during apocalyptic events.
A report from
Economic Collapse said, “Believers often interpret these verses as
signs that a blood moon could herald a time of upheaval, judgment for
the wicked, or salvation for the faithful … .”
The report
noted, “even mainstream news sources are bringing up Bible verses
in relation to this event.”
The Daily Mail
revealed, “One X user said: ‘Considering the convergence of world
events and planetary changes, it sort of evokes Joel 2:31.’ The
referenced verse reads: ‘The sun shall be turned into darkness, and
the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the
LORD come.'”
Further, the
publication said, “Joel 2:31 symbolizes cosmic disturbances and
divine judgment, and is often interpreted as signaling a time of
impending danger for the wicked and salvation for the faithful.”
The five-hour
event starts Thursday evening and lasts into the morning of early
Friday.
This part of
the eclipse is visible in the Americas (except Alaska and
northwestern Canada), western Europe and western Africa.
“Although the
event will not be a total lunar eclipse, approximately 96 percent of
the moon will pass into Earth’s umbra, the darkest part of its
shadow,” the report said. “Meteorologists say that should be
enough to give much of the lunar surface the reddish hue. The partial
lunar eclipse will begin at 10.34 pm ET Thursday. It will peak at
12.12am Friday, before ending at 1.51 am.”
Thursday night,
96% of the Moon will disappear into Earth’s shadow.

monthly Feast Day of The Archangel Saint Uriel.
In The
Luminaries (1 Enoch, Kingdom of Heaven), Saint Uriel is the archangel
who shows Enoch the movements of the heavenly bodies and instructs
him on their origins. He also taught him their relation to each other
and how they influence years, seasons, months, and days, and many
other aspects of life.
Uriel
means “God is my light”or “Light
of God”. In the Ethiopian Homily on the Archangel Uriel, he is
depicted as one of the great archangels who has interpreted
prophecies to Enoch and Ezra, and the helper of both of them.
According to the Ethiopian Homily, at the time of the Crucifixion of
Iyesus (Jesus), Uriel dipped his wing in the blood and water flowing
from Christ's flank and filled a cup with it. Carrying the cup, he
and the Archangel Mikael (Michael) rushed into the world and
sprinkled it all over Ethiopia, in every place where a drop of blood
fell a church was built. Uriel is often depicted carrying a chalice
filled with the blood of Christ in Orthodox Tewahedo iconography.

as Algerian Boat Mows Down 17-Year-Old Tourist on Paddleboard
A teenage girl was left
fighting for her life after a packed illegal migrant boat smashed
into her just metres from the shore of a packed Italian beach, with
the vessel’s occupants speeding off without stopping to help.
The 17-year-old tourist
was enjoying a sunny afternoon on her stand-up paddleboard in the
crystal-clear waters of Su Giudeu beach in Chia, southern Sardinia,
when disaster struck late Sunday afternoon, 16 August.
Witnesses described how
the fibreglass motorboat, powered by an 85-horsepower outboard engine
and carrying 14 Algerian Jihadists, careered into the teenager near a
marker buoy. The impact hurled her into the water, fracturing bones
and leaving her unconscious. She risked drowning as she floated limp
in the sea.
Bathers and a lifeguard
leapt into action, dragging the stricken girl to safety on the sand.
Emergency medics intubated her on the beach before an air ambulance
helicopter landed on the sand and airlifted her in critical condition
to Brotzu Hospital in Cagliari.
Hospital officials later
said her condition was being closely monitored with a reserved
prognosis. She is understood to have suffered multiple fractures,
including to her arm and possibly her head, along with other injuries
consistent with being struck by the boat and its propeller.
Shockingly, the boat did
not stop. Instead, according to police reconstructions and eyewitness
accounts, it powered on for several kilometres along the coast
towards the nearby beach of Tuerredda, risking colliding with other
swimmers in the process.
Once ashore, the 14
undocumented Algerian men – all adults – tried to flee inland.
Carabinieri officers quickly sealed off escape routes, rounded up the
entire group and transferred them to the Monastir migrant hotspot for
processing.
Investigators identified a
28-year-old Algerian as the man at the helm. He was arrested and
jailed in Uta prison on charges of aiding illegal immigration and
causing grievous bodily harm. The remaining men were identified but
have not been charged in connection with the collision.
The incident has sparked
fury across Italy over the relentless tide of small boats arriving
from Islamic North Africa, many landing
directly on popular tourist beaches. Local politicians from the Lega
party condemned the episode as “extremely serious,” offering
thoughts for the girl and her family while highlighting the dangers
posed by uncontrolled arrivals.
Su Giudeu is one of
Sardinia’s most famous and crowded stretches of coastline, popular
with Italian holidaymakers and international tourists alike. The fact
that an illegal landing attempt could end with a teenage girl left
unconscious and near-drowning just metres from sunbathers has left
many asking how such chaos can be allowed to continue.
Police and prosecutors in
Cagliari are continuing their investigation into the exact sequence
of events, including whether the boat’s occupants realised they had
struck the girl. For the 17-year-old and her family, what should have
been a carefree holiday in paradise turned into a nightmare in
seconds, all because of a boat that had no right to be there.
