ጄኔራል አብርሃ በስድስተናው/6ኛው መቶ ክፍለ ዘመን ከአክሱማዊት ኢትዮጵያ ግዛት የመጣ የጦር አዛዥ ሲሆን በ530ዎቹ እስከ 570ዎቹ ዓ.ም የመንን በምክትልነት እና በገለልተኛ ንጉስነት ያስተዳድር ነበር።

History and life of Emperor and Saint Kaleb of Axumite Ethiopia (known outside Ethiopia as Saint Elesbaan), the man who ruled an Empire and became a Christian Monk devoted to God.
The Axumite-Jewish conflict in pre-Islamic Arabia (Himyar)
“What kind of Judaism was in Arabia?” Christian Robin, a French epigraphist and historian who was also a leader of the expedition at Bir Hima, says most scholars now agree that, around 380 AD, the elites of the kingdom of Himyar converted to Judaism.
It is unclear how much of the population converted, perhaps 10-20% perhaps 30-40%. What is sure is that in the Himyarite capital of Zafar (south of Sana’a), references to pagan gods largely disappear from royal inscriptions and texts on public buildings, and are replaced by writings that refer to a single deity.
During the reign of Atse/Emperor Kaleb, Christians in the Kingdom of Himyar faced mass persecution by the wicked king Dhu Nuwas, his goal to provoke Ethiopia (then the Axumite Empire) into invading so he could defeat them and drive out all their influence on Yemen. He succeeded in provoking Kaleb into invading his country, but failed in defeating them and committed suicide to avoid getting captured. Yemen and parts of modern-day Saudi Arabia were now part of the territory of Axumite Arabia.
General Abraha
For the next century, Himyar was a Christian-ruled kingdom that continued to dominate Arabia. In the middle of the sixth century, one of its rulers, Abraha, marched through Bir Hima, leaving on stones dated 552 AD, records of the many locations he conquered, including Yathrib, a desert oasis that even years later was still called Yathrib, the City of the Jews, and that just 70 years later would become known as Madinat al-Nabi (the City of the prophet) – or, more simply, Medina.
General Abraha was a 6th-century military commander from the Kingdom of Axumite Ethiopia who ruled Yemen as viceroy and independent king in the 530s to 570s AD.
Rise to Power in Yemen
Invasion: Arrived in Yemen around 525 CE as an Axumite general sent by Emperor Kaleb to protect local Christians.

“When (on his return) he passed by Makkah, he wanted to destroy the Ka`bah, but the rabbis told him not to do that. They told him about the significance of this House, that it had been built by Ibrahim Al-Khalil, peace be upon him, and that it would become of great importance through that Prophet who would be sent towards the end of time.
“So he respected it, performed Tawaf around it, and covered it with a fine cloth. Then he returned to Yemen and invited its people to follow the religion of guidance along with him. At that time, the religion (Judaism) of Musa, peace be upon him, was the religion followed by those who were guided, before the coming of the Messiah (Jesus), peace be upon him. So the people of Yemen accepted the religion of guidance (Judaism) along with him.”
Death and Fall: General Abraha Died around 570 AD, after which Axumite rule in Yemen weakened and ended following the Sassanid Persian invasion.
During Ethio-Persian Wars where the Neo-Persian Empire defeated the Axumites and took control of Yemen in around 570, then Axum took back control after the Persian viceroy was killed, and then the Persians took it back for good.
